Hello Parents,

The beginning of the semester has come with many unexpected changes and new requirements from the administration. Now that things are becoming more organized, I have time to address some of the questions and concerns that have come up.

I have also been spending time getting organized and becoming familiar with our children, their routines, and their homeroom class.

First, I would like to apologize for not writing to you sooner. Below are a few important updates and reminders.

1. English Books

All English books will be sent home throughout this week for parents to look through and cover with plastic book covers to protect them throughout the school year.

It is very important that ALL English books are covered with plastic protection.

If you are unable to cover your child's books at home, please purchase the book covers and send them to school with your child. I will be happy to help cover the books at school.

Most English books will not be sent home regularly, as we want to avoid students forgetting their books and being without the necessary materials during class.

However, if you need your child to bring a particular textbook home, please let me know, and I can arrange for your child to take it home.

2. Homework

There was no official homework last week. However, students will have homework next week.

I have been spending time helping the children learn how to use their communication books, bubble books, and other classroom materials. For many Grade 1 students, learning these routines is an important part of settling into the new school year.

3. Signing Books and Worksheets

Please remember to sign your child's bubble book, communication book, or any worksheets that are sent home.

Your signature helps confirm that you have seen your child's work and allows you to stay informed about what is happening in class, including your child's progress and any areas where they may need additional support.

4. Student Levelling

The children will be completing a basic English levelling assessment next week.

There is nothing that students need to prepare for. This is a basic assessment issued by the school to help us understand each child's current English level.

Once the levelling process is complete, students will be placed into appropriate English groups. We will then spend time helping the children adjust to their new routines, including meeting their new English teacher, learning how to move from class to class, and understanding where to place and collect their English books and materials.

Thank you very much for your patience and support as we continue to help the children settle into their new routines. The beginning of the school year can be a busy adjustment period, but we are working hard to make sure the children feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.
